If it were me i would go ahead and just do an engine swap now. your going to pay close to the same for a 4 banger as you will for a 6... or just head out to the pick and Pull in Belton and see what they have laying around... I know there was a couple XJs out there and i think a YJ or 2

I agree-if you're going to put in that much effort-just find you a 6...if you can, get the engine and tranny-the 5 speeds they put on the 4 were junk-especially the Peugot...

If you are looking to do a sawp to a 4.0 and want to build a motor to your specifications, I have an extra engine in my garage. It came out of my '90 XJ (non-High Output) and I switched to a '92 4.0 High Output (modified). I have disassembled it completely with plans of building a stroker bored out .30 over. It has been hot-tanked and ready for the machine shop, just haven't taken it there. All components with it (ac, power steering, alternator, brackets, wiring harness, ECM, intake, exhaust, etc) are from a '92 XJ. If this is something you might be interested in, let me know.

I will post some pics when I get home this evening for you.

It had an AW4 automatic bolted to it, but I have a flex plate to mount the 5-speed manual also.

If you have the AX-15 or AX-5 transmission in your YJ, it will bolt right up to the 4.0.
