looking for some scrap steel to practice welding. nothing too thick though id like it to be less than a 1/4" if possible

You could go to an exhaust shop and ask if they have any scrap metal.

It's just some 1' x 8" scrap, nothing big, a friend gave me for doing the same thing Colton wants to do, practice.

if you gonna be worth yer salt at welding, size of the steel, or the quality of your machine shouldnt matter. Prep work is where its at. Clean steel welds easy, bottom line. Try welding a penny to an aluminum can, then your good.

since when can a mig weld a piece of copper to aluminum thats like 1/100th of an inch thick?
either way i got some scrap just gotta get a mask now

either way i got some scrap just gotta get a mask now
its a hood, but thats cool. I can weld a penny to a can. Its an old welders trick. I learned from an old welder so i know all the tricks. I can even bend 6 dry rods over my neck, supposed to be impossable.
Honestly you will weld good, if you take your time, and clean everything really good. It takes time thoe, so keep practicing. Also keep in mind that its refered to as "a process", follow the steps and you will have a good result. Unlike girls, penatration isnt good enough.
