welding assistance

Post  Ben91YJ on Mon Dec 28, 2009 10:14 pm

Looking to see if I can get some help welding on a radiator. 2 of the brackets on the radiator on our YJ have broken the welds. The damn thing is hanging on by the passenger side mounts. I can somewhat weld heavy stuff but not on a radiator. I can see buying a new one for whats wrong with it. Im in Temple so if your close please I could use the help.

Ben

Not sure, it is the stock one. I would assume some light steel.

my wifes did the same thing a few years ago. If you try to weld it your not gonna be happy. The bracket is steel, but the radiator is copper or tin on the sides. I would clean the shit out of it (i mean CLEAN) and get some solder and flux and go that route. Its cheap, and you can do it yourself. Trust me, it will not take much to burn through, so be careful. Its been about 9 years and no problems to date.

brazing, welding its all the same. Just got to pay attention to both surfaces and controll your heat. Its simple in any process. I used solder and its fine. i dont know what Jeep used, liooked like the Propoxy 20 shit to me when it broke, but the solder took to it so its some sort of metalic paste.
