I am in the process of building front and rear bumpers. I have the design sketched out, but can't decide on the thickness. What do you guys think ? 1/4 seems that it may be too heavy...but I want it to be sturdy. Then I just need to find someone to weld them up.

Was driving to New Braunfels On Friday(after driving to San Antonio and back from San Marcos) on the way to NB, got caught up in a little traffic and the jeep started to run a little rough(wouldn't idle) and popped once really loud, like a back fire. Shortly after exiting the highway it started having more troubles idling and died. Thinking it was a spark issue, I replaced plugs, coil, coil wire, cap and rotor, verified that I am getting spark and that I'm still timed correctly, getting fuel, ...

I took off my inspection cover to finally find out what has been leaking, found out its my oil pan. So I ordered up a new gasket last Wednesday, haven't gotten it yet. Hope it comes soon.

Ok, installed new 1" motor mounts last night drove home, no problems. Jumped in this morning, hit about 45 and I thought the front end was going to fall out. Stopped, took a look but saw nothing so I started again, it happened again. Third times a charm, started up again, no problems. Went out at lunch without any problems. Left the office and it happened again. On the third time it was fine. Anyone have any idea what is going on???

I'm seriously considering doing the high fender conversion, but I don't think I have time before Canyons next weekend. I'm tossing around the idea of just pulling the fenders off completely and running Canyons without em and them taking the time after that to raise them.

I was thinking about just cutting the crap out of them to make em fit, but I would have to butcher the fender behind the tire where the inner supports connect, likely ruining the fenders if I wanted to use them for tube fenders ...

Flat Towing Opinion

Going wheeling on the 23rd is the plan, but I might also meet some friends up at Colorado Bend Saturday evening for camping. The question is: what is your opinion on flat towing a rig all over the place, that many miles? Would ya? Austin to Llano, Llano to Bend, Bend to Austin. Comments....and don't get a tow rig and trailer b/c that is not in the cards.

Homebrew tie rod?

So my TRE's are blown to shit and I ordered a complete tie rod assembly since it was only a few extra bucks to get. Now that I'll have my original tie rod, I would like to keep it as a spare. It is possible for me to sleeve it with DOM?

If so, what diameter and wall thickness would you recommend I use?

And since the TRE's are shot, can I use heim's?

Any input would be appreciated. Btw, if it requires welding or fabrication (which it probs will) then that's a big plus

So, I was driving. Hit a small bump, noticed a noise; thought i poped a tire or something. Then i look out the driver side window behind me and see my spare dragging on the ground. My tire carrier snapped off of my bumper, about an inch of steel clean broke off, and I dragged it about 500 feet to a stop. The dumbass behind me didn't even honk during the 30 seconds i was trying to figure out what the noise was. My spare is destroyed, rubbed flat on the outside wall.
Ok, the details. Swapped in an 8 lug HP D44 and a Blue Torch Fab Full Width Kit on our YJ. Dug up a 1310 yoke from the salvage yard(yes I know it small and small sucks). Stock drive shaft is about 1 inch too long to even bolt up so its probably really more like 2 or more inches too long to account for travel. I just want to shorten this thing up so I can actually use 4wd in the Jeep for the first time in at least a year. Does anyone know of a place near the Temple area where I can get it shortened? ...

For those of you that have carb experience could you help me on how to adjust the carb for the time being until i get my new one?
